The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise is intended for pre-teen and young teen audiences. There are a lot of topics covered in this book that are relevant for foster and adoptive families, including dealing with loss, resilience, and building bonds with new people. Twelve-year-old Coyote and her father Rodeo live on a modified school bus and travel the country in the wake of the death of her mother and two sisters. They haven’t been home in five years, but Coyote needs to get from Florida to Washington in four days! Throughout their journey, they meet a wide variety of different people (and animals!) with their own struggles and have some adventures along the way.
I thought this was a very sweet and engaging book. Coyote is a relatable character, and the author does a good job of letting us see the issues she encounters from her point of view.
