Did you know that children in foster care most often travel with trash bags from home to home? Did you know that research called the MARC (Minimum Adequate Rate for Children) Study, which was completed by Children’s Rights in collaboration with the Ruth H. Young Center (RYC) for Families and Children at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and the National Foster Parent Association (NFPA), showed that:
“On average, across the U.S., current foster care rates must be raised by 36 percent in order to reach the Foster Care Minimum Adequate Rates for Children (the “Foster Care MARC”) calculated through this project. In some states, rates are less than half of what it actually costs to care for a child in foster care.”
I’m working to compile the following list of local and national organizations providing backpacks, bags, luggage, clothing, supplies/equipment, and services (like tutoring) or wishes (such as trips, camps, lessons, scholarships, etc.) to foster children or caregivers. Have one to add? Let me know, and I’ll get it on our list!
