Songs Great for Foster and Adoptive Families
Another way to communicate with your kids is by singing songs with them. We realized early on that there would be times our children would be hard to reach. They had learned not to trust adults, and they knew little about unconditional love. Parenting would take all the tools we could get.
A breakthrough came one day listening to the lyrics of the song “Sticking With You” by Addison Road and realizing how much it applied to our situation and seeing those lyrics reaching the heart of our little girl (Read lyrics here). I started singing it to her over and over. We’d get in the car, and I’d play it again and again, and she and I would sing along. The boys were oblivious, but she knew I was speaking those words to her through that song. I sang of unconditional love, of sticking by her, of doing what had to be done, or seeing past the fight she was putting up, and I reached her little heart.

This list includes songs for many different types of situations…helping a child understand you love them unconditionally, helping self esteem, encouraging parents on the journey…and much more! These songs have largely been compiled from fans suggesting songs or from other recommendation lists. We have not yet listened to all of the songs, so please have patience while we build out the topics more! Inclusion on this list does not necessarily mean endorsement.
