Help! My Feelings Are Too Big! – Review

Transfiguring Adoption’s Overview:

This book appears to have been written for adoptive or foster families dealing with attachment issues. It is geared for ages 9 and up. This is a chapter book. While short, it is packed with details that are age appropriate. There are black and white graphics throughout the book, as well as different style fonts and break out text boxes with more detailed information.

There are two parts. The first part is called Beginnings. The chapters in this section have a timeline feel. Through out this section of the book, the author discusses two different children beginning at infancy and then getting older throughout the chapters. Ms. Aspden does a wonderful job showing the differences between a child who has been well taken care of versus a child that has been abused or neglected and how both of those children would be acting, thinking, and feeling. The second part is called Hope. The chapters in this section cover real life ways of getting help and finding your team. I love how practical this section is and how you could use this as a great way to start a brainstorming discussion with your child about ways they can get help and what that might look like for them specifically.
