What is a “Party with a Purpose?”

A Party with a Purpose (PWP) is a gathering of friends, family, business associates or other acquaintances, hosted by friends of Transfiguring Adoption, to raise awareness of and funds for programs and services. PWPs are planned and hosted entirely by volunteers.

What is the party’s format?

The format is chosen by the host(s) and can be as casual or as formal as he/she likes. Parties can range from backyard cookouts to catered wine tastings, and everything in between. The usual format is more of a cocktail party than a meal.

What can guests expect?

Food, fellowship, and fun! Transfiguring Adoption staff provide information about our programs and services; the entire education segment usually takes no more than 10 or 15 minutes. Hosts or staff let guests know where any donations they choose to make may be placed.

Ideas

Like any party, the format is limited only by your imagination. The following are just a few options that have proven successful for others:

  • Hosting couple provides wine and other beverages; friends bring hors d’oeuvres and/or desserts to share.
  • Offer something special, e.g. chocolate martinis, for $25 each as a revenue enhancement to the straight donations.
  • Hosts provide all food, and each guest brings a bottle of wine – can be done as a wine tasting.
  • Potluck party, with the host providing wine, beer, and burgers; guests asked to bring side dish to share.
  • Other food ideas have included make-your-own pizza and a “wrap” party.
