A Live Discussion about Fears of Foster-Adoptive Parents

Recently on a live stream, adult adoptee, Betsy Crockett, and adoptive mom, Margie Fink, discussed real fears submitted to Transfiguring Adoption from parents. Watch now to find encouragement and advice for your fears as a foster or adoptive parent.

Some of the fears they discussed were:

  • Fear that we won’t be able to overcome all the trauma and emotions it causes
  • Fear of rebellion and addiction
  • Fear that we’re NOT enough and we CAN’T heal our children
  • Fear that the child will just want to run away to their birth family as soon as they graduate high school
  • Fear that I’m not spending enough time on therapies or helping my adoptive child and not knowing where the time will come from
  • Fear that the child should have stayed with the birth parents
  • Fear of totally losing ourselves in helping our children
  • Fear of child making false allegations against foster or adoptive parents
  • Fear that the child will see the bio parents as the fun parents because they give all the gifts and treats during visits and don’t have to do the hard day-to-day work of parenting and disciplining
